"Chinchero" Chincheros by El_Sueco

Chincheros Travel Guide: 51 reviews and 88 photos

Chinchero (altitude 3762 m) is situated 30 km north west of Cusco, on the road to Urubamba, the Sacred valley of the Incas.
There is a small handicraft market outside the church where you can make good bargains.
Here in Chinchero the women are dressed in traditional dresses. That together with the remains from inca times, walls and niches, give this place a very special atmosphere.
On Sunday mornings are the market of local products (which I have not visit) down in the village. In this market the people still are practicing bartering (change of things without use of money).

The colonial church is built on base of Inca stones.
The church contains beautiful paintings by the peruvian painter Chiwantito and woodcrafts, but is rather dark inside to see all the beauty.
When you come to Chinchero with tourist groups you often have too little time. To me it seems that the church and village is worth some more time.
There is a hotel in the village, Hotel Inca, with restaurant.
