Cusco, the central point of the Inca Empire

The main pages I have on Cusco surroundings are:
The absolute must:
- Machupicchu
The Sacred Valley of the Inkas:
- Urubamba valley
An impressing terrace and irrigation construction, not so often seen:
- Oropesa (Tipón)
One of the market places in Urubamba valley:
- Pisac
One more market place in Urubamba valley:
- Chinchero

The Peru on Inka time was called Tawantinsuyu. It was divided in four parts:
- Chinchaysuyu (north)
- Cuntisuyu (west)
- Callasuyu (south)
- Antisuyu (east).
The middle point of all was the Coricancha, the Sun God Temple. The city of Cusco was divided in Hanan Cusco (Upper Cusco) and Hurin Cusco (Lower Cusco), and had also a internal suyu division with lines, more or less but not directly coinciding with the state division.
Churches in Cusco

Surroundings of Cusco

There are many interresting constructions and archeological sites (but do not forget the villages of today).
Tumba Real

Machu Picchu

El Tumba Real. The picture shows an altar for offerings, situated under the circular tower. It has probably served as an Intihuatana (something that is binding the Sol)

Pros:"It is a great tourist spot."
Cons:"Like I said ... It is a great tourist spot."
In A Nutshell:"Take your time in this imperial city and its surroundings!"
