Try 'Chifa' - the famous chinese restaurants
  • Tip Rating:

  • Besides of the spanish influence, the food influence from Asia is the greatest. A great number of chinese came in the 19th century to work. Then they left the country side for the cities, where they installed their restaurants, the famous so called 'Chifas'.
Strictly speaking perhaps this is not a chinese food, but the combination of chinese receipts (mostly Canton) with peruvian components has created a very good food tradition.
Many peruvians today choose as their meal 'arroz chaufa', 'sopa wantan' and 'tallarin saltado'.

    The traditional food at Barranco
  • Tip Rating:

  • The traditional food 'restaurant' in Barranco. Open each saturday and sunday, from afternoon till 10-11 PM.
(this means a file of tables with typical peruvian food, you decide what you want, pay (low prices) and get a 'recibo' which you present to the cook)
A very calm, quiet and nice place, where you can enjoy all the traditional food of Peru to very reasonable prices. Example: Papas rellenos 1,5 USD.
    Friendly local people.

Favorite Dish: Papas rellenos, Aji de gallina, Papas de Huancayina, Ocopa, well there are all the things you want to try.
To the food you can add all the pies: Pie de durasno, Pie de manzana etc. Suspiros (marenge with manjarblanco). To this you drink Chicha morrada o Inca Cola.

    Eat, drink and dance!
  • Tip Rating:

  • When you are in Lima, take the opportunity to try all the different dishes that are in the restaurants. The peruvian kitchen is one of the best, with a great variety of meat, vegetables and fruits. In Lima they have wine yards (Surco) that make a rather good wine (muscat).
Eat the traditional dishes, and also the so called Chifa (asian food with peruvian taste).

Favorite Dish: If you just stay a few weeks, there is no problem for you to choose a new menu each day. Try for instance:
    Papas Huancaina
    Aji de gallina
    Causa limeņa
    Ocopa
    Papas rellanas
    Mondongo
    etc etc.
After eating, don't forget, the peruvians like to dance!

Cordano: A jewel restaurant in Lima

  • Restaurant Name: Cordano

An almost 100 year old beauty, conserved as they ought to be.
When the first owner died, the heridates decides to give over the restaurants to the employees.

Favorite Dish: The restaurants has one of the longest lists of the meny I have ever seen. I did not miss any traditional food in that list.
By lack of time the planned visit to the restaurant was missed, I tried only the bar/cafe side (picture). Worth a visit though!!
(Coffee and a sandwich with Jamon del pais).

Hi, I enjoy the pictures, peruvian food is amazing so little known. The true beauty of Peru is in the country o "la sierra" . If you next time try Jauja and neighboring towns.

I have to correct what you wrote about the names of the food so the correct names are: Papa Rellena, Papa a la Huancaina, Pie de Durazno, Chicha morada. Hope you correct that, thanks.
