A convent build by the franciscane monks. It was founded in 1725 by el padre Francisco de San Jose to serve as a centre international for the franciscanes. The fame of Ocopa is its missionary history. Here the missionaries formed is expeditions. The main part of the missionary travels was directed to the peruvian jungle. More than 80 monks met a violent dead, caused by poisoned arrows, drown, lost in the jungle, serpents etc. These monks are called "Martires de Ocopa". There were also missionary travels from here to Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Equador. |
| | Inside the church and convent there is a crypta for monks, the tomb of Padre Pio Saroble, many great paintings, a huge library and an amazon museum. The amazon museum was interresting, unfortunately taking photos were forbidden. |
| | In the convent you can see a great mural painting of the missionary history. Besides, we were pushed through the rooms by an unfortunate guide who just wanted to end the tour, together with a school class without any interrest. |
