Third time's a charm and other Playa del Carmen, Mexico Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

We always have a great time at Xaman-Ha. Just two blocks away from the hustle, bustle, music and restaurants on 5th. In Mid September a large portion of the beach was missing due to the Hurricane which traveled between the Yukatan and Florida. No damage in Playa, but heavy surf and lots of rain. We could see the Beach actually coming back after our 4 days there.

Unique Qualities: Decor unique to every unit, each unit different from the next. We stayed one night in a one bedroom, which is plenty for two people, three could even fit comfortably, we decided to splurge and stay a couple of nights in a three bedroom penthouse..which was INCREDIBLE. Two stories, two balconies, huge master bedroom with ocean view. A family could stay here a week and not get on each others nerves...amazing place. for what you get here, it's worth every penny, and less expensive than the really nice hotels in town.

In addition to the great rooms and views and pool You have a beach, this one is recovering from Hurricane Ivan, but it had just been through 4 days before, so, not bad huh? Looking down the beach you can see the start of the town of Playa del Carmen and the Ferry dock to Cozumel. Another thing, and I don't know if this is by design or just luck. No beach vendors!!

I have read other places that the pool can get croweded in high season. I have never seen that happen. Look at that, pool and caribbean are the same color!

Ok there is getting to be quite a bit of traffic in Playa..and you are going to be sharing a lot of space with tourists, but that's fine, because you are one too. But if you need to get a change of pace, try La Sirena Condo's in Akumal. On half moon bay, zero traffic, this actually has a center which still feels like the sleepy fishing town playa del carmen once was. You won't find as many restaurants, no mcdonalds or carlos and charlies...you WILL find peace and quite. And stunning views from these condos. This photo was taken off the 3rd floor. Unique Qualities: Great pool, great views, very quiet, awesome breezes. Snorkle right out. Ocean views from all but the 2nd bathroom.
Satellite TV if you must, air condtioning if you ask for it. This is a view to live for yes?

We did not stay at this hotel but can tell you from what we SAW there it is stunning. Palapas on the beach, powered only by candlelight. I am not sure,but I don't believe they have electricity. Once you see the rooms and how your door of your palapa opens right onto the sand, you won't miss it.
Beautiful Palapa restaurant offers vegetarian food by the menu full, plus some seafood.

Unique Qualities: A beautiful cove all to itself.

We had a one bedroom ocean front condo which was close to perfect! Yes, I did sort of miss the hotel style swim up bar and cabana boys bringing the drinks, but the price was great for what we got. An ocean view living room, small patio, large bedroom, full kitchen and all within two blocks of the main shopping and dining area of Playa Del Carmen.

Unique Qualities: Two pools perfect for cooling off in, and just beyond that, that white sand that the Yucatan is famous for. Cancun tries to lay claim to it, but it's every where!

It's also easy walking distance to the Cozumel ferry. You can ALMOST see it the photo. Look for the tip of a boat on the left hand side of the photo, it's right there.

Address: Two blocks south of the hub bub

This is a perfect place to be close to it all and yet removed enough for peace and quiet. This year our condo was on the second floor allowing an even better view of the ocean. The pool is never packed, you will always find a lounge (at least in low season). People come here to relax, not get out of control.

Unique Qualities: We just love this place. The price quoted below is per person,, not per night, for a one bedroom condo in low season.

We took a tour offered by the reservation clerk when we went to scope out it's sister property, Copal.
Azulik BLEW me away. The only electricity powers the office and the restaurant, the rest of the grounds and powered only by candle light. I though i would go MAD until I saw the palapas. Large, beautiful, two beds..one hanging queen size, for napping. One king size for sleeping. Beautiful porch over looking the ocean from your cliff top palapa. Ok it's only about 20 steps down to the beach, but it changes your perspective in an amazing way.
Private baths with hollowed out trees which serve as your tub. A small round soaking tub for two is located outside. Beautiful grounds, spectacular cove. I forgot all about electricity after about 10 minutes. I highly suggest visiting their web page.

Unique Qualities: Yoga, massage, a sweat lodge. Visit the web page. This place is so cool that even THAT may not do a good job doing it justice.
