The Ghost Town

Sometime to a place like Bodie!
It was out of plan to visit Bodie!..Our itenirary was Yosemite park but since the park still closed due to unremoved snows on the road and has scheduled to be opened in the month of May....we headed through Bodie State Historical Park about 12km. North of Lee Vining and 22km.East to Bodie..Bodie is known as The Ghost Town. This Bodie or rather the remains of Bodie has about five percent of the buildings it contained during its 1880 heyday still remain. Today, It stand just as time, the elements have left it....A genuine California gold mining ghost town.

An old mining town

By 1879, Bodie has a population of about ten thousand.
The last resident left this place in the year 1932.
In 1962 Bodie became a state historic park.
Bodie was named after Waterman S. Bodey, who discovered gold here in 1859.

Wild wild West!!

Heading Bodie and entered to a few miles of rough dusty unpaved road..." Where the hell are we going!! " I get used by some parks we've already visited between California, Arizona and Nevada...wherever it is, It has a concrete road., while on our way..there was actually no excitement although I was curious how this park looks like in reality, to visit a real ghost town!!
It was fantastic to discover a historical place like Bodie.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Interesting and historical old well-preserved californian town
  • Cons:unpaved dusty road and no services all over the park
