BELGIUM.
The country that serves a very memorable and amazing adventure in my life.......
Belgium is my second loved country, I love the country side, from Flanders, the northern part which is the FLEMISH speaking population and to Wallonia the southern region which the FRENCH speaking. The Belgian cities are worth discovering, it has a medeival architecture, the country side are green and soft with giant forest againts superhighways.
It was the 1'st of November 1997, when I first landed in Belgium...national flight from London to Brussels "Flight BD 143 ( British Midland ) 9:30 a.m in Brussels " took my way. Minutes during take off , I was looking out from the window having a glimpse of Belgium...It was too foggy that day, I couldn't even see anything, I even thought it was only clouds... the view down the country was all covered with bundled clounds until the plane nearly touch the ground, It was the weather actually...that was too foggy and gray!!, From my seat, I told myself "Hey, is this Belgium? " It was only my full enthusiast and happiness to see my Fiancee who's waiting for me and walk the isle towards the arrival area. Anyway, Thank's god I landed in these new homeland safely!!!! an airport bus took us to enter airport, It was already cold for november 1'st. So, I got home!, since it was an official holiday to celebrate All Saints Day, my husband and I went together to my mom in-law, I was surprised...the whole family was there, my brother inlaw, sis inlaw and their kids, Fantastic!! we had cups of coffie and a slice of cakes all together....later on, everyone has decided to visit the grave of my father in law..The cemetery was just a walking distance away though. So,we left from my mother in law's house, from there a walk all together towards the graveyard, huh' my first day in Belgium was terrible cold for me since I came from my native "Tropical" grounds, well..i can't remember anymore how low the temperature was. Time had flies,...that was April 1998 when I left Belgium for nearly 4 months and got back to The Philippines....August, after 4 months in 1998 I came back home in Belgium. It was different, the country was more charming, great weather, ideal temperature, lots of outside activities, looks like everybody happy...well, It was SUMMER!!!!! we drove home and It was so IMPRESSIVE all the way from the airport, trees and forest are lively green, lots of flowers...lovely!!
No regrets, I live happily with own family as well having great belgian inlaws, I have accomodate the european culture, I have learned to speak Flemish from school, got my belgian drivers license, I like the belgian food and prepare itself at home, an advantage of mixture between Fil. and belgian cuisine in a week. when I'm out, I enjoy drinking "Hoegaarden" and "Geuze" rather than Kriek, lambic cherry beer for most of the girls choice, well, I prepare not that sweet...also, I got used to so many things and differences from Philippines and living in Belgium. I could say I am blessed being a succesfull woman, I have a decent job, what more I could ask for??.... .with a BIG thanks to my super husband, I now became a BIG traveller, I owe him what I am and where I am right now. I love you.!!
I hope I've share with you my short Belgium story.
