This 19th century structure is the city's prime attraction and it is close to the heart of many Texans because it symbolises Texan bravery against all odds. The Alamo was the last bastion for the Texan freedom fighters against the Mexican forces. It had a tragic end but from it the spirit of Texas rose.

The most endearing thing about San Antonio is the riverside walk. The city fathers have certainly transformed this river into a pleasant diversion for its residents and visitors alike. It meanders through the city and along it are quaint restaurants, gardens, pubs and even an open air amphitheatre, which shows Texan culture.

The river is tree-lined and there are boats that leisurely transport recreationers along the river giving it a Venice-like appeal.
