"Saxon City" Sibiu by Ramonq

As I strolled around the main square of Sibiu, I had to keep reminding myself that I'm in Romania and not in Austria. This town is like a museum piece that showcases Saxon culture, more Germanic than Romanian. Sibiu is so well preserved that the European Community has declared the city as a European Centre of Culture in 2009, and with it, millions of euros were spent in paving the square and main roads and painted all the historic buildings in the city centre.

The result is a magnificent restoration of Sibiu from a decaying old medieval town into a thriving European tourism centre. Bueatiful imperial Hapsburg buildings have been turned into museums, modern shops and restaurants and shops. The large square is now a wonderful cultural centre where the town's cultural events take place. This is where the locals meet and congregate before they scurry off to the nearest bar or restaurant around the city.
