I visited Paris in Feb 2000 on business, but had some leisure time.I was most impressed by its wonderful history and architecture, being this was my first trip to Europe, my first observation was the architecture and how different is from where I live in the US. Paris is a peaceful beautiful place and you can experience culture, history, every day Parisian life. Every day parisian life can be experienced by getting on Metro during rush hour home, seeing the people hurrying in Paris, or visiting a local store where people are gathering food for their dinners that night. You can experience the restaurants and wine bars which are very plentiful. When you dine in Paris, the seating is very close and people are seated closely and there is the ever chattering of voices, dishes clanking, with a wallow of cigarette smoke in it all. People even bring their pets to the restaurants and enjoy their meals with their pet perched at their feet. I visited Eiffel tower and the tunnel where Princess Diana had died where many people visit to pay their respects and it is kind of eerie to see the spot, although Paris continues on with every day life, with this horrible event in its history, it moves forward as it always has. It is a beautiful place with beautiful tree lined streets with spectacular architecture. The shops along Champps Elyesee are wonderful too.
I found though that strange guys try to latch on to Westerners. I was followed by two of them who tried to talk to me and then one tried to kiss me with no warning! I also witnessed a pickpocket on metro, so be careful of kids who come in on one stop, mix in crowd, then jump off next stop. Be careful at all times of your surroundings, always looking around and being alert. I was also approached by a gypsy cabbie who frightened me when I first arrived, I realized he was not a regular cabbie and asked to get out and he refused unless I paid him so many francs, which I did , then I reported to the police. Just be careful, alert that these people prey on tourists

I wish my work took me to Paris! I was in Paris the day after Diana died and I remeber visiting the memorial, I think it's become a permanent thing now.

Hi! Very good info for tourists in Paris! :)
I didn't know Princess Di had a permanent memorial where her car crashed. I know a restaurant in St. Augustine, Florida called "Gypsy Cab Company"
Oh dear, take care in Paris ... :-)
