Sunset and Moonrise in Brittany

Pointe du Raz is the point the furthest west in France. Located in Britany (Bretagne), this desolate, impressive landscape is a beautiful, humbling place. This statue of Notre-Dame des Naufragés-- "Our Lady of the Shipwrecks"-- is quite moving.

There is a new visitor center, and plenty of parking.

********************************

Within a geography the size of Texas, France manages to pack in remarkably diverse landscapes and cultures. In Brittany the food is different, as is the architecture... and even the language. For example, I am essentially fluent in French, but "Ya 'vat, labourat a ran kalz bemdez. Kelenn a ran er Skol-Veur, ha studiañ a ran kalz: lenn a ran e pep lec'h, er gêr, er bus, en ostaleri. Ne ran nemet labourat." is Greek to me! Actually, it is Breton, a Celtic language spoken daily by more than a quarter million French.

Sunset over the Atlantic

For someone like me, who grew up on the east coast of the United States, it is a strange sensation to watch the sun SET into the Atlantic ocean!

With only 2 photos here, Paul, I must say it's enough to feed the soul and captivate the heart of us "lovers of France!" Beautiful Reach for the Moon pic! So many marvelous things come from Brittany...... ;-)))

You don't think of it, but yes it must be very different to see a sunset over the ocean. For me living in TX, it would be great to just see an ocean :-)

It's quite a difference to see the sun set behind an ocean where you used to see it rise isn't it? :) Lovely pictures, interesting angle too (pointing at the moon) :P

Exceptionalism within exceptionalism, sister peninsula to the cornish Lizard...?
