Franktown Travel Guide: 7 reviews and 20 photos
Like so many towns in Colorado, Franktown got its start due to a little bit of gold that was panned out of the sandy bottom of Cherry Creek in 1858. The actual town was named after James Frank Gardner who staked a claim on land and built up a homestead. Since that humble beginning Franktown has been a town located at crossroads. Today, Franktown sits at the intersection of State Highway 83 and 86. However, in the past the location of Franktown on the edge of Castlewood Canyon was a stopover for wagon trails heading toward Denver, or out across the eastern plains. Franktown was also a stop on the Pony Express Route. Now a days Franktown is a small town , that feeds into the Denver work population. Most the people living in the area are horse people or those who want to be near a big city but still enjoy open space. Outside of Castlewood Canyon State Park, there are not a ton of reasons to visit Franktown, but I felt since it was my hometown I should have some sort of page built for it. If you are heading from Denver to Colorado Springs or vice versa and have some time on your hands consider taking Highway 83 rather than I-25, and stop by Castlewood Canyon or pick up a bit to eat at a great Mexican resturant.
