The heart of Renaissance Italy Florence is definitely the heart and sole of renaissance Italy, from the great duomo with its signature dome built by Brunelleschi, to the Uffizi and Accademia museums great collections of art, to the shops lining the Ponte Vecchio. Florence is a wonderful stop on any trip to Italy, and a most see for enthusiasts of art and the renaissance. |
| | The magnificent Duomo The Florence skyline is dominated by the duomo that is the center of the historical center of the town, and is one of the most amazing places to visit. From any hill or bell tower, the shear size of the duomo becomes clear as it dwarfs the surrounding buildings. These views only add to the awe-inspiring imagery of the great church. |
Spend enough time in Florence It is possible to see Florence in a day or two, if you chose to only see the most common sights. However, to truly appreciate what Florence has to offer I would recommend giving the city at least four days. This way you can take your time through the many wonderful museums, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Boboli Gardens, a truly absorb just how fascinating this city is. There is so much to see here that often goes unnoticed, great buildings of new architectural achievement, wonderful works of art by lesser known artists, a beautiful city that can only be appreciated by wondering through the narrow side streets and getting away from the crowds. Florence is worth a lengthy visit. |
