  • There are many birds that either reside or migrate through Kodiak. They include
    Bald Eagle
    Belted Kingfisher
    Black-billed Magpie
    Bank Swallow
    Red-Breasted Nuthatch
    Hermit Thrush
    Fox Sparrow
    Song Sparrow
    American Tree-Sparrow
    Pine Grosbeak
    Common Loon
    Emperor Goose
    Black -legged Kittiwake
    Horned Puffin
    Tufted Puffin
    And many more
I believe that twice per year the American Audobon Society of Kodiak does a local bird count which alot of people particicpate in.

  • This is a picture of me and my skipper (I'm on the left). We used a Setnet to catch salmon from July - Sept. Great work for a summer job!

  • From downtown Kodiak you can take a beautiful ride to the village of Chiniak which is about 45 miles. (You can see more about Chiniak on my Chiniak site) If you continue past Chiniak you will come to the end of the road although there are a few different roads to chose from. You can get out and hike over the rolling hills. On many of these there are old World War 2 bunkers that can be explored! You get some beautiful views from the cliffs also.

  • On the road to Anton Larsen Bay you will find this sign. There is a house here in the middle of nowhere. They have some unique animals. Llamas and some exotic looking goats. In the summer time they operate a Hamburger stand!

Hi Scott, you certainly do live in a fascinating part of the world. Anne and I will hopefully get to Alaska next year.
