  • Walking the docks you can talk with local fisherman. Most of them will take the time to answer questions you may have.
Fisherman's Memorial...It is a sad reminder of how tough the Fishing Industry is on the local community. Outside of the Harbor Masters office there is a plaque with all of the names of fisherman that have died in recent history

  • There all kinds of live music on 3 different stages playing all at the same time. You can hear Blue Grass, Country, Rock, Hillbilly, and many other styles of music. It's a great way to spend the weekend. There is camping available too. There are 3 areas to camp. Muscian area where the jamming goes to the wee hours of the morning. Family area...A little quieter and no drinking allowed. Then the ever popular Yahoo area where pretty much anything goes.

  • If you are in decent shape there are some really nice Mountain hikes that are a few miles from town. Mt Baromter (2563 Ft.)is very popular. It starts right behind the airport. There are lots of Salmon Berries on the trail in the beginning. (if you go in July or August)
You get nice views of the ocean and outer islands also you can see what the outback of Kodiak looks like.

Directions: Right behind the airport. You will see a trail about 200 yds past the light field at the end of the runway. There are a few level areas on the way up to stop and take a break and enjoy the view.

  • The Baranov Museum houses some interesting articles about the history of Kodiak. Including alot of Russian and Early American. It is a great place to spend a couple hours especially if it is raining. It is the oldest wooden structure on the west coast of the United States. It also survived the Tsunami of 1964 which wiped out pretty much of Downtown Kodiak! Summer Hours M-F 10-4 S&S 12-4 Winter Hours M-Sat 10-3 Closed Thurs & sun And closed all of February. Admission is $2 with under 12 Free.

  • Take a drive to Monashka Bay! There are a few small beaches along the way. When you get to the end of the road there is a bigger beach called White Sands. You can guess why? There are Picnic tables set up in the trees near the beach and there is a good clean toilet there too!! Also there at the end of the road is a trail which is nice long hike that is fairly well marked. You can see more pictures of the Monashka Bay area in my Travelogues!!

  • You can find this carved wooden statue at the Plaza near the Natives of Kodiak bingo hall. It is a nice place to chat with some local people and get your picture in front of the sign.
