Zermatt - Home of the Matterhorn

Great Hiking

Matterhorn from the trail
Zermatt has many great hikes to do! Many of them are very well marked too! I just did day hikes so I'm not sure of accomodation on the longer hikes. But there is an ancient network of trails that go all over the alps. It would be great to go back do an extended series of hikes. You can get the information that you need from the tourist information booth at the train station and I believe there is one in town too. My trip was in 1984 so I'm guessing that Zermatt has probably changed quite a bit since then! Hopefully there aren't high rise condos blocking the beautiful views of the Matterhorn! They didn't allow gas powered vehicles in town either just a few electric trucks that the hotels used. So you walk everywhere and Zermatt is small enough and really enjoyable that you wouldn' want to drive anyways.

What a grand spot for hikes. The chalet was, indeed, beautiful. I admire your spirit for adventure. A truly beautiful area.

I've barely stuck my toe into Switzerland thus far - would love to come back and do some real hikes like this!
