  • Favorite Thing: One of the first places you should probably visit in Thailand is the Grand Palace! You can find lot's of ornately decorated buildings including Wat Phra Kaew which houses the sacred Emerald Buddha! You will have to deal the masses of people though. There are loads of tourist buses that come here! There are some out of the way spots that will be fairly quiet if you want to get away from the people. But it is a MUST SEE for Bangkok!

  • Favorite Thing: There are many hilltribes to see. It can be hot hiking during the day and the nights can be down right cold. I slept under rice sacks as blankets and quite often slept on a mud floor. Most nights we were at higher elevations so I froze my Butt off Almost everynight!! But it was Fun!!

  • Favorite Thing: You can ride an Elephant in Ayuthaya. It is pretty fun but if you have a chance to ride one in the jungle it is much better than going on the Ayuthaya elephant rides!

General Tips: Elephant riding in Ayutthaya

  • Favorite Thing: It can be quit interesting to ride the elephants as you do get some nice views of the temples in the area but you don't actually enter the grounds of the temples. The ride is just on the side of the road. So if you really want to ride an elephant and are not goin to any of the jungle areas you could do it here. The elephants are dressed up pretty cool and so are the Mahoots. There are 2 operations in Ayutthaya that offer rides.

  • Favorite Thing: Wat Chai is a great place to hang out! I just love it there as long as there isn't a huge tour bus load of people hanging around too! It is where the movie Mortal Combat 2 was filmed. The grass lawn is very well maintained and a nice place to sit under some of the shade trees along the edge of the grounds. Also in the eastern corner you can sit under a Huge Shade tree right on the bank of the Chao Phraya River.

General Tips: Lot's of monkeys at Khao Yai

  • Favorite Thing: You will probably see lot's of monkeys at Khao Yai. We counted over 200 that we saw. We didn't see any Gibbon but we heard them in the jungle. I don't know exactly what kind of monkey it is but I think it is one of the types of Macaques that reside in the park. These guys hang out in the trees right near the road and will come right out to the cars that are driving by. It is illegal to feed them but I saw people doing it.

  • Favorite Thing: Here in this group of trees we could hear Gibbons but we couldn't actually see them! I was a little dissapointed that we couldn't see them but I will never forget the sounds that they made! It could have been VT member Zrim !! He is good at making the sound of the Gibbon!!
