I have lived in Singapore all my life. As Singapore is such a small country, I like to travel to remind myself that the rest of the world carries on differently.
Like most city folks, Singaporeans are materialistic. We are so busy hankering after that bigger car or flat that we forget to stop and appreciate the things we have.
Singaporeans joke that we are "Kiasu" which means "Afraid to lose out", I think this is because Singapore is so small that we need to keep up with the Jones to survive.
Through travelling, I learn to take a slower pace in life and to take time to enjoy the sunset. |
