Mexico Things to Do
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Things To Do: Uxmal
  • Tip Rating:
  • Uxmal, the Mayan Wonderland of the state of Yucatan, is a definate place to see! The city is only 1/4 uncovered, so there are vast areas left undisturbed for your pleasure.

    Things To Do: Ek Balam
  • Tip Rating:
  • A newer ruin site that has was just opened within the past year by the govenment of Mexico. It is located north of Valladolid and south of Tizimin in the state of Quintana Roo. It is pristine, with the architecture and sculpture being some of the best I have ever seen. There were NO people there when we visited and our guide showed us places that we would have never noticed nor visited. A must see place to see!!

    Things To Do: Chichen Itza
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chichen Itza is a must see place if you are visiting the Yucatan and Cancun. It is a little more touristy than the other sites (like Uxmal and Ek Balam) but still a great site to visit to experience Mayan culture. Get there in the morning before the hordes of people come and the heat and humidity set in

    Things To Do: Cholula
  • Tip Rating:
  • The pyramid at Cholula is the largest pyramid in terms of base and volume in the world. It is topped with a small Cathedral by Cortez who just thought the mound was a large hill. You can take tours inside the pyramid and the grounds as well.

    Things To Do: Monte Alban
  • Tip Rating:
  • When visiting the city of Oaxaca, you must see the ruins of Monte Alban. Situated on the top of a mesa, the views are breathtaking of the Oaxaca valley below. The ruins are facinating to wander around explore. A little touristy, but not bad. Click on the picture to get the full effect

    Things To Do: Palenque
  • Tip Rating:
  • Palenque is probably the most facinating Mayan city that I have ever been too. It is the creme de la creme of archeological sites in Mexico. Situated in the tropical jungles of Chiapas, the city almost takes on a life of it's own again with the mists rising from the morning heat. The green backdrop paints an almost perfect picture of how you would picture a typical Mayan ruin. There was so much to see and do that this place will keep you occupied for a whole day!

    Things To Do: Teotihuacan
  • Tip Rating:
  • Stronghold of the Aztec empire until the Spanish came to conquer, Teotihuacan is definately a place to see if you are visiting Mexico City. Located only 1 hour northeast of the city, it is easily accessable. You can climb the temples of the Sun and Moon as well as walk the Avenida de los Muertos (Avenue of the Dead)

    Things To Do: Mayapan
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Mayan ruins of Mayapan are facinating to see. Although not as large as say Chichen Itza or Palenque, they are still worth visiting. The architecture is somewhat similar, although there are some notable differences. The site is not very well known, which makes it great for exploring on your own off beaten paths. The Mexican govenment is in the slow process of rebuilding some of the structures.
