Things To Do: Palenque

Palenque is probably the most facinating Mayan city that I have ever been too. It is the creme de la creme of archeological sites in Mexico. Situated in the tropical jungles of Chiapas, the city almost takes on a life of it's own again with the mists rising from the morning heat. The green backdrop paints an almost perfect picture of how you would picture a typical Mayan ruin. There was so much to see and do that this place will keep you occupied for a whole day!

Stronghold of the Aztec empire until the Spanish came to conquer, Teotihuacan is definately a place to see if you are visiting Mexico City. Located only 1 hour northeast of the city, it is easily accessable. You can climb the temples of the Sun and Moon as well as walk the Avenida de los Muertos (Avenue of the Dead)

Things To Do: Mayapan

The Mayan ruins of Mayapan are facinating to see. Although not as large as say Chichen Itza or Palenque, they are still worth visiting. The architecture is somewhat similar, although there are some notable differences. The site is not very well known, which makes it great for exploring on your own off beaten paths. The Mexican govenment is in the slow process of rebuilding some of the structures.
