There is a theatre that is build out of the side of the mountain. It is featured in the Sound of Music, but I had to see it for myself. The actual archways are built into the wall. It was quite impressive.

We saw these gardens in winter, but they still impressed us with the surroundings and elegance of how everything was situated. The plants are meticulously manicured and the statues and buildings that surround it give you a great sense of what a royal life would have been like in Salzburg.

Hohensalzburg Fortress, built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard, considerably enlarged by Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach (1495-1519), largest, fully-preserved fortress in central Europe. The medieval princes' apartments and the Fortress Museum are of particular interest. Since 1892 the fortress can easily be reached by funicular railway departing from the Festungsgasse.

Besides all this, it has great views of the city!

This is where Mozart was born. It is now a museum dedicated to the master and his musical talents that he has shared with the world. I personally consider him to be the greatest composer of all time! There is a small fee for adults, and children are free. The hours are daily 0900-1730 (Sep-Jun); daily 0900-1830 (Jul-Aug).
