We were heading to Vancouver for a family function, at the height of the busy summer season, and could not find much under $200.00 a night in the area we wanted.
After literally hours of searching, I came across Canyon Court Inn and Suites (which is now becoming a Comfort Inn), in North Vancouver. I had my doubts as we could not find much about this motel, but it turned out this place is SUCH a gem, we would not hesitate to stay here again. We received a rate of $119 per night, for the August long weekend, and that's with a kitchen as well.
Unique Qualities: This place appears to be family-run, and all employees were very pleasant and always inquiring if everything was ok. Hopefully, this will not change as the hotel becomes a Comfort Inn. The only problem we encountered was that their computer kept cancelling our card key, which was fairly inconvenient. However, it seemed that this system was new, and the staff were very apologetic.
Our spacious suite was extremely clean, and appears to have been recently redecorated, and the bed was totally comfortable. There is also an outdoor pool that is clean and well-maintained.
I can just describe this place as a nice, clean motel, that offers the basics -- perfect if you are gone all day long, and just come back to sleep. It is very conveniently located in North Vancouver, near the Lion's Gate Bridge, Lonsdale Quay, and shopping areas. The only down side is Capilano Road, where it is situated, is extremely busy. Ask for a room OFF THE ROAD. The motel entrance can only be approached from the right hand lane heading north, which makes it awkward if you are arriving from the Trans Canada, or if you are approaching heading south.
Give the complimentary continental breakfast a miss, unless you like Tang and toast. There is a Dutch Pancake house that serves breakfast and lunch located next door at the Best Western.
Address: 1748 Capilano Road, North Vancouver
Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Near the intersection of Capilano Road and Marine Drive. If arriving from the Trans Canada, you cannot enter heading south, so once past the motel, you'll have to turn around.
