LOONIE-LESS IN LAS VEGAS

by madamx - last update: Feb 27, 2008

Paris, Las Vegas

Let me explain the page title -- Canada doesn't have one or two dollar bills , just big, awkward coins called loonies (1$) and toonies (2$). The first thing I noticed when I arrived in Vegas was: my wallet was tidy with no bulging coins and very, very light. It was nice not having to haul those coins for a few days. Hence the title. I guess you could interpret the title as if we lost a lot of money. We don't gamble; but I do SHOP (heh heh).
A side trip to Venice
You don't have to gamble to go to Vegas -- we didn't spend one nickle on gambling. In fact, you don't have to spend a whole lot of money in Las Vegas to have fun, if you really don't want to. You don't even have to leave your hotel to have fun, if you don't want to!

However, as you can see, we did leave our hotel. Where else can you travel to Paris, Venice and New York in just four days?

Update 2006: What was most noticeable on our return trip this year was a great reduction of cigarette smoke. I don't know if it was just the time of year we went, or maybe more people have quit smoking, or the ventilation systems in the casinos have greatly improved. A bonus for us non-smokers whatever the reason is.

Update 2008: Some changes we noticed on this trip, probably caused by the downturn in the US economy. Most obvious were decreased shopping hours at some stores, and seemingly less crowds in malls and on streets. Some fine dining restaurants were advertising "lunch specials". However, we had just as much fun as in previous years and enjoyed the reduced foot traffic
What I liked best about Las Vegas were the beautiful hotels, the fantastic restaurants, and yes, of course, the shopping. There is so much to see and do in Las Vegas and the surrounding area, that if you were bored, there would be something seriously wrong with you.

Hi Helen, Looks like you treated yourself to Luxury. Everything looks 5 star, except the buffet with the rancid pecans. Might get there one day!.
