Is it or isn't it?

by Johnny_CA - last update: Apr 15, 2004

Whenever you watch that golf tournament at Pebble Beach, they always show this damn tree. I guess it's special because it's isolated on its own rocky stand. It's called the Lone Cypress. I thought it was a Joshua tree? Whatever. Anyway, I took the 17 Mile Drive (a scenic route through Monterey) cruising by million dollar ocean view homes, forested areas and golf courses. One of the scenic stops was at this tree. When I first stopped here, I said that looks a little like the tree on TV all the time but fooled myself into thinking that the one on TV was much "nicer". So I continued on my driving tour in search of the Lone Cypress. When I looked at the tourist map it showed that I should've passed the spot already so I asked a local kid about to hit the golf link. He pointed back where I came from and said, "Follow the red hash marks on the road, it takes you right to it." Then, brilliant that I am, I realized I had stopped and snapped photos of the Lone Cypress without knowing that it was THE tree! So I backtracked and spent a bit more time there.

Musashi and I love Monterey! Thing is, there's not too many dog-friendly places. He can't even get past the gates at the Wharf. So we sit at the entrance and pretend we're street performers. Mush outshined that damn accordion-playing monkey one time!
