  We have visited Crete twice and its striking beauty always amazed us, just get off the beaten path. You're correct about the beautiful little villages to discover and enjoy the architecture of old greek buildings. Travel on!

  I expect Matala is more than a little different from when I free camped on the beach in 1977? Absolutely loved the place then and enjoyed the communal atmosphere.
