Having been through Eastern and southern Africa and places like Malawi and rural Kenya, it was a shock to the system to be in South Africa, with its skyscrapers and western amenities. After a few weeks in that sort of time-warp, entering into Lesotho (pronounced le soo too) was like transporting back to the beginning of my trip. Rural farms, poverty, and a meager way of living prevailed again. Obviously, I do not yearn for people to be poor, but for me, rightly or wrongly, it is what "feels" like Africa to me. I felt like I was in Australia or Europe while in Cape Town. That is not what I want going to Africa. So, being amongst people who work for the necessities in life, that simple being and existence, was wonderful.
