Getting TO/AROUND: As with most other European cities I visited, Vienna has a transportation card for tourists that allows for unlimited transport with entry discounts to most major attractions. For 16.90 Euro, you can travel for 72 hours on the city's U-Bahn, S-Bahn, bus, tram routes. There are disccounts at museums, theaters, concerts, restaurants and cafes. The card is available from most hotels and hostels, all Tourist Information Offices and standard information offices at Stephansplatz, Karlsplatz, Westbahnhof and Landstrasse.

Getting TO/AROUND: The OBB, Austria's train system, is very good, efficient, and clean. Eurail passes and Eastpasses are valid in Austria. Vienna has 2 main internation train station, and three additional stations that service mainly domestic, but a few international trains as well.

The two main international stations are Wien Westbahnhof and Sudbahnhof.

Wien Westbahnhof services mainly: Amsterdam, Berlin, Bregenz, Hamburg, Innsbruck, Munich, Paris, Salzburg, and Zurich.

Wien Sudbahnhof services mainly: Budapest, Graz, Krakow, Prague, Rome, and Venice.

The three other stations include: Wien Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, Wien Nord, and Wien Mitte. Franz-Josefs and Nord each have one train to Prague per day.

Listed below are Austria's OBB website and, what I found to be the best of all, Germany's Die Bahn site. Both give excellent time tables and some prices, if the trains are in either of the countries. I just find Germany's easier to navigate.

Getting TO/AROUND: All international flights to Vienna go to Wien-Schwechat Flughafen. The airport is located outside the city, about 18km away. All major airlines service the airport. Not one American airline company flies to Vienna, but their partner companyies do.

Transportation into the city is cheapest by the S7 Flughafen / Wolfsthal tram, which will end at Wien Mitte, a short U-Bahn ride to the center.

    Cost is 3 Euro

The ride takes 30 minutes and leaves every 30 minutes from 5 to 21:30
