BEACHES: Platja des Figueral

  • Platja des Figueral was my favorite beach on the whole of the island. What made it so great is that they have a big rock out about 100 meters away from the shore that you can cliffdive from. That by itself would have made it my favorite. But, it also had great sand, a cool little bar, and lots of partiers there. It made for a super-good time in between the clubbing.

Directions: It is in the northeastern part of the island. But, there are never really any specific directions on maps of this place. So, just get a map, a car, and figure it out. The tourist places offer maps of all the beaches, so its easier than it sounds!

BEACHES: Platja des Figueral and Fueling Station
  • Tip Rating:
  • I just wanted to give a shot of the actual beach and give a story about the adventure me and Omer had getting back from this place.

We had rented a small little "bubble car," meant to give us great gas mileage. But, with me driving like I was on the final lap of a Formula One race getting up to the northside of the island, lets just say that we were running a little low. So, we arrive at a gas station on fumes. I tell Omer to fill it up, while I go in to pay and get some snacks. I finally notice that Omer is having problems about 2 minutes later, and go outside to see what the deal is. He couldn't get the gas lid open. So, I say, there must be a little pull thin by the driver's side. Nope, I check there. We then proceed to scour the entire car looking for the release switch for the gas lid. We search it twice! By then, cars are starting to line up, but only a few. We then try to muscle the damn thing open, which proved as fruitless as try to find the switch. By now, we are pretty pissed about the idea that 2 people can't open a gas lid, AND the fact that the rental place wouldn't have "enlightened" us about this. Finally, I got the keys and pryed the damn thing open... at which point we noticed it was a locking gas cap. By now, there are at least 5 cars waiting on us. But, no honks yet! We, obviously think that we should be able to use the SINGLE key givent o us by the rental agency to open the cap. Well, that would have worked had the cap not been broken. It just spun and spun and spun. At this point (10 minutes into this thing), we start laughing our asses off. And, we couldn't stop. This was the point the people started honking their horns at us. And rightfully so, at one point I literally was on the ground laughing. We finally figured out that if you held the cap with your fingers and THEN turned the key it worked. We finally got our gas, and got the hell out of there before we got shot. I still laugh at the image of two grown people spending 20 minutes filling up a gas tank....

    BEACHES: Platja de ses Salines
  • Tip Rating:
  • Salines is probably most famous for its nudity and the good-looking people displaying it. I went there solely for the sand... Um, so the sand was really nice.

No really, the best thing about this beach is that it is so shallow for so long, that it is a great place to play some sports in the water, whihc is what me and my friend did. The beach itself was on of the biggest we went to, and it has a couple of places to eat on the beach. I also liked the place because it had ample parking, and you sort of emerge from the trees onto the beach.

    BEACHES: Talamanca
  • Tip Rating:
  • Talamanca is an OK beach, with not too much to offer. If you have access to a car, or want to take the bus to remote parts of the island, there are definitely better options. But, if you are looking for a relatively quiet place to soak up the rays, then this is a good option close to most of the accomodation in Ibiza City.

    BEACHES: Platges de Portinax
  • Tip Rating:
  • At the end of the main road running to the north side of the island, lies Portinax. The small development there has little shops and a few hotels. The beach itself is preety good, and very quiet compared to the other places we went to. It seemed to be a bit of a family place, judging by all the kids we saw. If you are looking for a cool time with your mates, check out another beach. But, if you are looking for a quiet rest in the sun, and are on the north side, this is your place.

    BEACHES: Platges de Comte
  • Tip Rating:
  • Once me and my friend had switched from the expensive Ibiza/Talamanca hotels, we decided that Sant Antoni was a much better place to hang our hats. It also put us real close to the great beaches of the west side of the island. One of those was Comte. It was about a 15-20 minute drive from Sant Antoni, so not too bad there. It had too small of a parking lot, but once we got a spot, we were very happy that we came. The little rock jetty provided a cool place to take it all in, and the sand was decent, but not great. Overall, it was worth the trip.

    BEACHES: Cala Gracio
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is actually two beaches in one, seperated by a small little jetty. Both have good sand, but the place is small. The best part about this beach is that the swimming is good, because the waters are protected by the little jetty.

    BEACHES: Cala Llonga
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the more scenic, but smallsih beaches was Cala Llonga. We went, but decided to carry on to another place, because it looked dead. It WAS beautiful, but there's something to be said for being around fellow partyers while in Ibiza.

SUNSETS AND SUNSET CAFE'S: Sunsets at Cafe del Mar
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the most wonderful things about my entire Ibiza experience was the 5 sunsets I took in at Cafe del Mar. It is the perfect place to get warmed up for the evening. It is along the west side of the island, and therefore gets the best, final glimpses of the setting sun each evening. Everyone comes and crowds around this place to listen to its chilled out grooves with the backdrop of the shimmering waters. You can also BYOB and just sit in fornt of the restaurant on the rocks and get the experience cheaper. Either way, you are going to enjoy it immensely.

For those who don't know, Cafe del Mar has produced their own music for about ten years now. It is very slow, chilled out electronic music.

Next door is Cafe Mambo, and they have fire twirlers nightly during the high season. It is a very cool compliment to del Mar.

  • Not only should you head to the west side of the island for the Cafe del Mar experience, but you should be there just to take in the awesome sunsets. It is well worth the effort, and your camera will be happier for it!

I too hated this club, we went to twice as nice, with DJ EZ headlining it. it was awful there was such a bad atmosphere (loads of english wannabe gangsters ) drinks were way overpriced (12 euros for a bottle of corronita) (corona in england)
