San Lorenzo Apartments: Upscale Apartments Near the Duomo

Once again, having a friend getting married in Florence and being invited to stay with him and his family is really nice. They stayed at the San Lorenzo apartments. We rented every apartment they had here and others were scattered across the city. I can say that this might be the absolute perfect place to stay in Florence, in that it is 50 feet from the Duomo and 50 feet from San Lorenzo. Also close by, is the Mercato Centrale. Easily within 10 minutes walk, you have Sant Maria Novella, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi; i.e. everything you need.

This place offers several apartments, ranging from 2 person to 8 person places.

Amenities:

Heating, air conditioning, satellite TV, fridge & freezer, microwave oven, washing-machine, dishwasher, toaster, CD player, iron, american coffe maker, linens, blankets and towels, small roof top terrace.

Unique Qualities: The Turchi Apartment is the one we stayed in. It has room for 8: 3 kings and 2 twins. There is also a couch, but they don't allow anyone to sleep there.

Santa Monaca Hostel: Horrible Hostel Santa Monaca Review

First let me say that I AM bitter about this place. The reason? I had the loudest, hurricane, tsunami, gail force wind snorer known to man two bunks down from me. NOTHING would break this mans unrelenting vacuum breath. The ceiling and room was free of dust, I am sure of it.

Besides typhoon man, the hostel is a converted convent, and you can tell. Seperate dorms, curfew at 1, lockout, etc, etc. It all adds up to a horrible hostel.

In their defense, the have cheap rooms at 16 Euro, a cool lounge area, clothes washing facilities plenty of shower facilities so you never have to wait. Plus, the take credit cards.

It is an alright place to stay, if you are going to do NO partying in Florence.
