I lived next to this hotel and was taken to its restaurant for brunch. I took a stroll around the gardens and into the spa/fitness area. This entire place is spotless, classy, and new. Marble is abound and everything is absolutely beautiful. They have a full spa and pool, gym, etc. etc. The buffet breakfast was full of perfectly sliced meats, fish, desserts, everything! I looked at the brochure and the rooms were as immaculate as the rest of the hotel. The hotel is well-known to host most of the rich and famous that stay here, and you will notice all of the Porches and Ferraris parked out front for the guests. The doormen are always helpful and friendly. Overall, if I had the money, this is where I would stay. Rated a true 5 star hotel.
Unique Qualities: Recently renovated to perfection.

One of my few advance bookings, Hotel Gallia was a nice, if over-priced hotel. It is decently located between the Colisseum and Termini station, which was the reason I chose it before I left the States. The staff was very helpful, even with me creating a key ring fiasco.
Unique Qualities: The rooftop terrace has a wonderful view of Santa Maria Maggiore and the breakfasts were very good, for Italian standards (i.e. a good choice of fruit, breads, coffes, and juices)

Yellow Hostel: One of the "World's 10 Most-Famous Hostels"

My first hostel experience was at the Yellow Hostel. Needless to say, it was trial by fire... it was during the heat wave, and like most of Europe hostels, had no AC. This place is not built on ammenities, though. It is a place to meet people form all over the world and sit and chat, or go and roam Rome. I did both. Pub crawls are given every night, which I am not the biggest fan of, but it WAS my birthday and, well... at least we found our way back.
Unique Qualities: The Yellow Hostel allows you to meet so many peopl from so many places. It can and does get loud, and the facilities are a little bit better than horrible, but not by much. So, you have to chose the right reason to come here and be in the right frame of mind. Free internet and kitchen use is a plus.
