New Siam II: Excellent Cheap Accommodation Off Khao San

  • Bangkok - Good Map of Area (from Website)

  • The New Siam provides great rooms at cheap rates. Air conditioning and daily cleaning are the best features, and the restaurant is great as well. There is a travel service / agent in the lobby, and a pool as well. The rooms are big for Bangkok standards, and comfortable beds... overall a great place.

    Sawasdee Hotel: Khao San Accommodation
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Sawasdee is a chain of hotels throughout Bangkok. This one is situated at the end of Khao San Rd, but about 30-40 meters from the end. This provides you with some shielding from the noise of Khao San, but still allows you to have the Khao San pricing. At about 400 Baht for a double with A/C and TV, you really can't complain. In the lobby is an aggravating clothes tailor that will ask you to buy a suit EVERY time you go to your room, but he's harmless. There is also a travel agent and internet service there. I booked my tour into Cambodia from here. Not a bad deal.

    Unique Qualities: Decent cheap rooms
Close to the action of Khao San
Airport bus stops directly in front
    Tour buses start from here
Restaurant / cool bar in front

Khao San Road Accommodation: Sleep on the Cheap
  • Tip Rating:
  • Khao San Rd is the backpackers mecca. Every sort of character your mom ever told you to stay away from stays here. Crime and pollution is high, but so is the fun. There are too many places to stay along Khao San to name. You will never have a problem getting accommodation here, even in the high season. You might not be able to get the exact room you want, but there will always be a bed. The biggest reason to stay here is the price. It is insanely cheap; you can easily find 150 Baht beds... thats less than $4USD.

Definitely ask to see the room before you pay, though, because some can be a figgin' disaster area.

Thanks for enjoying my tips! I'm with you in the monk appreciation corner - I love to watch too. I love to get up early in the morning and skulk around the markets, watching the monk rituals.
