Jason's World

Ouch. Well, I can certainly say that it hurts being home. You just get used to traveling. The feeling that, "there has to be something to do around here that I haven't ever done or seen before.." sort of gets ingrained in my consciousness with every trip. Eventually, I know that life will break that down, slowly but surely, until that blessed day arrives when I am leaving again. Its not that I dislike my home. Its that I love being home-less, able to pick up at a moments notice or at the beck and call of a whim. It certainly did not help coming back to a hurricane and a global financial meltdown. Thankfully, I can fall back on my perspective that "Hey, at least I didn't drown in the Nile that one time..." It is the endless memories that feed and nourish my soul while I am home planning my next trip. Without the never-ending stream of remembrances and reminders that occur numerous times a day, I would wither and die. People say that "What you don't know can't hurt you." Maybe that's true. But, when you finally make it to the other side, know just how much is out there, how awesome it is, and how much more you want to see, not being able to pursue it, literally, to the ends of the Earth, is what hurts. I don't like pain. So, I will continue my quest to see it all, feel it all, and try to understand it all. I will fall short, no doubt. But, it will certainly hurt less than quitting now.

Favorites

Now it might seem, and rightfully so, that I am not immune to having multiple favorites in this world, and therefore, multiple favorites in my VT pages. Well, I have been asked to put it down, lay down the absolute law according to Jason, and have a concrete, not jelly-like, favorites list. So, without further deliberation..

City:Singapore

Explanation When I first returned from my big trip, I always ended up giving Vienna as my favorite city due to the wonderful time I had there. But as magical a time as I had there, Paris, or even Rome, the city that pops up with the most frequency in my mind and calls for me to return most is Singapore. I really can't even put my finger on the exact reason. It is such a mixture of cultures that would seemingly clash, but what is produced is the cleanest, most well-organized city I've ever been in. The people are friendly, the streets are lined with palm trees and sidewalks so clean, you could eat off of them. The public transportation is clean, efficient and easy to navigate. On one street there are the comforts of Western civilization, namely Starbucks, on the next nothing but Chinese writing and stores and on the following nothing but Indian. People leave from a mosque and greet people on their way to a Buddhist temple, who smile at everyone exiting from a church. It all seems to blend in and produce this image in my mind... the one constantly making me check airline tickets back!

You might notice that my tips range from just the facts to trying to include you in the all-out madness of the place. I generally write my tips according to how I felt at the place, though not always, because I try to pass along not just what I saw, but what I felt as well. So, I might seem a little glum and serious with Aushcwitz, because I think that's what it deserves and that definitely was how I felt. On the other end of the spectrum, nightlife in Ibiza was the craziest thing I have ever participated in, so hopefully , that's how my tips came out. Anyway, peruse if you like and try to feel things through me!
