Shanghai was my introduction to China and I found it truly fascinating. It was so different from what I had ever experienced in Europe, America, Africa or even Central Asia. Shanghai is a city of contrasts. You can walk through old streets of Shanghai where people live like they did decates ago. Yet, within minutes you can find yourself in fancy neighbourhoods where people live in luxurious apartments and eat in beautiful restaurants. This huge contrast is seen everywhere. While most of the people still ride their old bicycles, you can often see fancy cars like Audi A8 or whatever other fancy car marks. Shanghai definitely exceeded my expectations and now on I'd recommend it to anyone traveling that way.
Oh, and I must make it clear that those fish on the picture CAN'T be found in Huangpo River ;) One of the things that you find in Shanghai is that the air is awfully polluted and the water in the river simply disgusting. If you want to see fish in clean water, you better head to the Shanghai Aquarium!
