This house was the home of the first Prime Minister of Canada John A. Macdonald. He rented the house in 1848 and stayed there for only one year. It is built in an Italian style. Today it’s a national monument and can be visited.

Kingston is situated at Lake Ontario and therefore near the border of Canada. An impressive fort can be visited on a hill outside the city. During summertime students perform as soldiers and maids in old uniforms and dresses. The picture shows a bedroom of the barracks as it looked like centuries ago.

Where Saint Lorence Stream meets Lake Ontario are a lot of islands in the river. This area is called “The Thousand Islands”. On most of those tiny islands are cottages or manors. During the summer there are regular boat-trips from several ports. The small town of Gananoque is the best starting point.

Upper Canada Village is a museum where you can see how Canadians lived in the 19th century in rural areas. You’ll find all kinds of trades. Farmhouses, mills, tailors, shoemakers and so on. During summertime nearly all trades are performed by actors. So you feel like you have been set back a century ago. It's located 7 miles east of Morrisburg ON.

Directions: It is located on County Road 2, 11 km (7 miles) east of Morrisburg and 29 km (18 miles) west of Cornwall.

This impressing technical building is an elevator for ships and a part of the Trent-Severn-Waterway which connects Port Severn and Trenton via the Kawartha Lakes. It has two chambers which contain the ships. One chamber is lowering as the other rises. As the drop here is 65 feet it is the world’s highest liftlock.

The world-famous falls are best seen from the Canadian bank of the river. Walk along the bank or take a boat-trip with the Maid of the Mist.

At night go up the Skylon-Tower. From there you have a breathtaking view over the falls - they are illuminated in various colours – and the lights of the two cities of Niagara Falls (one in Canada and the other in the United States).

Where Niagara River meets Lake Ontario you’ll find this picturesque small town. You should visit it on your way to the famous Niagara Falls. Walk along main street and see the beautiful houses. But it’s quite a touristic place – so bring enough money if you want to spend more than a few hours.
