The best way to see the highlights of Lanzarote is by rental car. There are a lot of agencies all over the island and the competition is fierce. This is good for the traveller because the prices are very affordable.
International companies usually charge more than the unknown local ones. So if you are on a budget it's recommandable to compare the prices.
The roads on the island are in a very good condition (with the exception of the road to the Papagayo Beaches where an off-road vehicle would be your best choice). And the distances are never far as the island only has a length of about 60 km.
