Crystal River-Home of the Manatees

Crystal River and Homosassa Springs, Florida (Citrus County) are home to the largest population of the West Indian Manatee. The Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge provides critical habitat for 25% of the endangered manatee population. An estimated 100,000 visitors come to this area yearly to see the manatee resulting in a $7 million annual tourist trade. The best time to be guaranteed to see manatees is November-March.
