Probably the greates tourist’s attractions of Odesa are the "Potemkin Steps“! One scene in Sergej Eisenstein`s movie “Battleship Potemkin” made them world famous.
The original 200 steps were built during the years 1837-41. Today there are only 192 steps left. Eight had to be taken away when the passenger harbour and Bulvar Prymorska were renewed. All together Odesa`s landmark is 30 meters high and 142 meters long. At the top the steps are 13 meters wide and increase to the bottom to 22 meters, so that they look higher than they are.
Potemkin Steps appear more impressive from the bottom than from the top, where they offer a magnificent view on the Black Sea and the passengers port.
