Nkhata Bay is one of the places which most people travelling in Malawi will visit. The town is located at a small bay with some nice beaches nearby. Nkhata Bay has a jetty where the “Ilala” and the “Songea” stop at. |
| | In the past there was a massive security problem in Nkhata Bay. At the beginning of 2004 happened an incident, when during a big birthday party of some expats a gang, armed with AK 47s, assaulted the estate. Guests were beaten up; money and cars were stolen. There are some rumors, that the army was involved, because they way the guys were acting looked like a professional operation. Don’t let this make you not to come here. Nkhata Bay is a nice and interesting town |
It’s a friendly place with some good accommodation, snorkelling and diving possibilities. About 2 km to the south is “Chikali Beach” a nice place to relax if you don’t want to stay in town. | | |
