Lisbon - The cablecar
The cablecar is located in the Parque das Naçoes and runs over the edge of the River Tagus (Rio Tejo) between the south and north ends of the Expo site. From up here you can enjoy a wonderful view!
Lisbon - The Alfama district
Alfama is the oldest and most peculiar district of Lisbon, with its narrow winding streets and colourful buildings.
The name of the area comes from the moorish "Al-hamma" and the hillside of Alfama survived the great 1755 earthquake. The Castelo de São Jorge is located on the top of the hill.
Lisbon - Castelo de Sao Jorge by night
The Castelo de Sao Jorge is located in the historic Alfama district and, as you can see in the picture, the castle dominates the city from its vantage point atop Lisbon's highest hill, above the old Moorish quarter.
The castle was the royal residence until the late 15th century. Originally built by the Visigoths, the castle was damaged by the devastating earthquake which took place in 1755.
The castle was declared a National Monument in 1910 and the rebuilding work started in 1940.

Lisbon - The oceanarium
The oceanarium is located in the Parque das Nações, the district built for the EXPO '98. The oceanarium has two levels and at the center there's a square tank, seen underwater on both levels as a constant reference.
Directions: Parque das Nações
Lisbon - The ceiling of São Roque
The St. Roque Church was founded by the Jesuits in the late 16th century. Apart from the beautiful painted wood ceiling you can see here, the church contains a chapel by Luigi Vanvitelli honoring John the Baptist. The chapel, ordered by the Bragança king João V in 1741, was assembled in Rome from such precious materials as alabaster and lapis lazuli, then dismantled, shipped to Lisbon, and reassembled.
Cabo da Roca - The lighthouse
The red and white lighthouse is the second main attraction of Cabo da Roca, just after the wonderful landscape :) I wish I could see it at nighttime... Next time, for sure! :)
Directions: Cabo da Roca
Cabo da Roca
Cabo da Roca is the "ponta mais ocidental do continente europeu" or the most western spot in Europe. To tell the truth, I found out that there are lots of places in Europe boasting about being the most western one... :-/ However, whether it's true or not, I suggest to see Cabo da Roca as the view is very spectacular.
