Restaurant Name: Antico Falcone
"Bancomat e carte di credito- NO!". Several signs on the walls remind you to take "real" money with you. This trattoria is one of the oldest in Rome, as it's there since early 20th century. The place and service is very simple and genuine, very "Roman", I would say. If you want to taste real roman cuisine and just look for simple food, then have a go. You won't be disappointed.
Favorite Dish: "Pasta alla nasona" (rigatoni pasta with a sauce made of tomato and cheese) is their special dish. It looks and tastes like your nonna's pasta. Cool! You can also find all typical Roman dishes such as bucatini all'amatriciana, spaghetti alla carbonara, penne all'arrabbiata, carciofi alla romana. And believe me, they're all very tasty. Worth a visit, definitely.

Trattoria Da Bucatino: Bucatino all'Amatriciana

Tip Rating: Satisfaction:

|
|
Restaurant Name: Trattoria Da Bucatino
Another typical Roman "trattoria", but I would say this is the best one I've ever been to. My second time there was with Marit, maritagnes here on VT, a nice Norwegian lady and she said it was her best Italian meal ever. You can taste lots of typical Roman dishes, such as Bucatini all'Amatriciana, Pollo con peperoni, abbacchio allo scottadito and many others!
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is, of course, Bucatini all'amatriciana. Bucatini are similar to spaghetti, but are much broader with a hole through the centre... The only problem is they're not as flexible as spaghetti so that it would be quite hard to wrap them round the fork!!!! So, if you want to avoid sauce all over your clothes and face, don't be shy and use your towel as a bib!!! Apart from this tricky part, it's a great experience!!!!

Restaurant Name: Pasticceria Dagnino
Favorite Dish: The famous “Sicilian Cannoli” are made of wafer shells filled mainly with “ricotta” and a piece of candied fruit or chocolate. This shop sells all kind of sicilian pastries (like cassata siciliana ) and much more... the only advice I can give is... GO!!! They're so crunchy and sweet and wonderful!!!

Zi Gaetana: A nice place and yummy desserts :)

Restaurant Name: Zi Gaetana
This restaurant is very well-located in via Cola di Rienzo and the atmosphere is very pleasant and calm, even if it was full. You could talk and have a decent conversation, even if the place was crowded: that's very important to me! The restaurant staff was nice and kind :)
Favorite Dish: We all had pizza, but I want to write about desserts... Mmmm, very very yummy!!! Jane ( oneonta_ni on VT) had already been there and she said desserts were great... And yes, they were great!!! I had Catalan cream... So good!!! They also had "fruttini di gelato" (fruits with icecream) and a wonderful tiramisu with peaches!!! I will go back and try the tiramisu!

Pizza: The best supplì in Rome

|
Restaurant Name: Pizza
You can find the best supplì in Rome in this small pizza shop. It's what we call "Pizza al taglio" shop as they sell slices of pizza and some other "delicacies" such as supplì, arancini and some other yummy fried stuff.
Favorite Dish: Well, the supplì are simply sublime and really big compared to their usual size. They're fresh and yummy and wonderful... and you'll find out that you can't wait much before eating them... It smells too good!!!

IL BARROCCIO: Typically... Roman!

Restaurant Name: IL BARROCCIO
I've been in this restaurant several times as the food is simple and good and the service is quite nice and... funny at times... I've heard this restaurant is open since the 2nd World War, so the tradition is going on...
Favorite Dish: You can choose among a wide variety of Roman and Tuscan dishes. Try "carciofi alla romana" (Roman artichokes)! I had a dish of pasta called "SCHIAFFONI AL FORNO" which means "OVEN-BAKED BIG SLAPS"... Sounds funny, doesn't it??? :)))

La nuova Cantinetta: A real Roman Trattoria

|
|
Restaurant Name: La nuova Cantinetta
This place is what we call a trattoria, meaning a more "rustique" restaurant, where you can find typical regional dishes. The owner is a very "special" person... Don't think he's rude, because he's just a typical roman guy :) Don't hesitate too much when ordering your food and eat everything, otherwise... he'll be a bit disappointed!!!
Favorite Dish: Obviously, don't think you can eat sophisticated food at La nuova Cantinetta... But you'll find wonderful pasta such as bucatini all'amatriciana , penne all'arrabbiata , spaghetti alla carbonara , gnocchi and lots of other yummy roman food. CLOSED ON SUNDAYS

Formula Uno: Crunchy pizza...

Restaurant Name: Formula Uno
This is one of the most attended pizzerie in San Lorenzo, the neighbourhood mainly inhabited by university students. It is crowded almost every night , especially at weekends, and you usually have to wait outside for a free table. Sometimes it can be very noisy inside, but that's part of its "charme" ;-) The service is very quick so that you don't forget that there's people waiting outside for a seat and a pizza...
Favorite Dish: Pizza is crunchy and yummy and they have a wide choice... I suggest to have a try of their fried stuff :) CLOSED ON SUNDAYS
