One thing many persons invariably do is to walk down the strip to check out the various casinos. Although it can be taxing on the legs, it's interesting to see all the different types of casinos. As mentioned in the intro, there are themes for many different cities (Paris, New York, et al). Even more amazing is going downtown to Fremont Street to see the old casinos - it's amazing to see the contrast between the older, somewhat basic, casinos and the new luxurius ones. Vegas just keeps growing (good to see all the money folks lose is put back into the hotels!). So when in Vegas, try to see as many different casinos.

Thrill Rides: Crazy Rides and a Good View of Vegas

My friend was reluctant to ride the Big Shot, though with the help of the ticket agent we were able to convince him to go. It was funny because the ticket person mentioned that it was really safe (i.e. no one has been hurt), and that even Cuba Gooding, Jr. ("Show Me the Money") rode the Big Shot, however he had gotten sick doing so. Anyhow, of the two rides the Big Shot is a lot better than the High Roller as in the latter one does not get a good view of the city nor it is as exciting. In addition to the rides, the trip to the top of the Stratosphere is cool as one gets a good view of Vegas. My guess is that the dry, desert land near the Stratosphere will be developed one day.

One great thing about Vegas is all the shopping. This Coca-Cola store has more coke merchandise than I've ever seen. It's interesting just to walk through and see.

One thing I wanted to do in Vegas is get a photo with an Elvis impersonator or with Elvis himself. The closest I came is visiting the Elvis-A-Rama which is located about a block from the main strip. Elvis does appear there though one can only see him by attending the concert. The museum/store does have a bunch of memorabilia and things for sales, and one does not need to go to the concert in order to browse through this part.

Disclaimer - this event is only for "science geeks" like myself! We went to a Star Trek convention over at the Hilton. It's held every year though the Original Star Trek actors and actresses are getting up in years, and so perhaps down the road the event won't be as big. In one room there is trade show where one can by any sort of memorabilia. In the main theatre room, the actors get up on stage and field questions from the audience and tell old stories about the filming of the shows. Being a fan of the older series, it was fun just to do just once.

Honestly, the casinos in old downtown are pretty, well, old. It's amazing to see the contrast versus the new casinos. I swear too that at the casino we visited that the roulette wheel was rigged! Nonetheless, one good thing about going here though was meeting a mermaid.

Star Trek the Experience was actually pretty good. It wasn't just a ride, though they try to do more to make it overall better experience. That said, I would say that the ride is for kids and/or adults who grew up on Star Trek.
