Tall Trees

California has big trees all over the place. Redwood is kind of out of the way and is someplace to see if you are passing through (as I was). Otherwise one can see tall trees in Northern California such has Muir Woods or in Yosemite or other parks.

Coastal Surprise

The beach along Redwood was unlike that of the sand one would find at most places. It was more coarse, darker, and very firm. The water was very clear and not so cold I guess being that it was August. The waves were deceptively strong and so wading up to the knees was all I could manage.

Drive Thru Tree

I have to confess this was my sole purpose for visiting Redwood - stand inside a tree! Not what I imagined - too commercial and the carving lacks creativity.

Anyhow, I think the story is that this particular tree had been damaged in a storm (top part), and so it made it a good candidate to be carved up.

An interesting note - this is on private property - there are no drive-thru trees on park land.
