Honestly, that is the name of this point on the South Kaibab trail. It's said that this trail is very scenic; and although this is the furthest down I went, I can believe it!

Seeing the canyon from the rim in itself is awesome, though my appreciation for it grew as I walked down the Bright Angel trail. Here is a view looking down towards Plateau Point which is about six miles from the rim. This picture is taken about 3 miles down. This was my first trip to the canyon in 1991, and years later in 2003 I finally made it back so as to hike to the bottom!

This map shows some of the trails and campgrounds. For example, the above photo shows a view of Plateau Point from Bright Angel Trail. In October, 2003, over the course of three days I took a leisurely hike from the North Rim to South Rim. The below Travelogues describe more on some of these various points within the canyon.
