Ooh Aah!

Grand Canyon South Kaibab
Honestly, that is the name of this point on the South Kaibab trail. It's said that this trail is very scenic; and although this is the furthest down I went, I can believe it!
The Trail

Bright Angel Trail

Seeing the canyon from the rim in itself is awesome, though my appreciation for it grew as I walked down the Bright Angel trail. Here is a view looking down towards Plateau Point which is about six miles from the rim. This picture is taken about 3 miles down. This was my first trip to the canyon in 1991, and years later in 2003 I finally made it back so as to hike to the bottom!

Topographic Map

This map shows some of the trails and campgrounds. For example, the above photo shows a view of Plateau Point from Bright Angel Trail. In October, 2003, over the course of three days I took a leisurely hike from the North Rim to South Rim. The below Travelogues describe more on some of these various points within the canyon. (The map is more clear when clicked on and opened in its own window).

El Tovar and Phantom Ranch are categories under Grand Canyon National Park - Hotels & Accommodations and there aren't very many tips in that location.
