"Bled, Slovenia" Bled by where2next

Bled is a very pleasant getaway from the big city. If you are traveling from Salzburg to Venice, going to Bled and than Piran is a nice route to go. In addition to the scenery, I really enjoyed the peaceful of the town and region. There are many lakes and one can go hiking to see waterfalls. It is possible to get here either by bus or train.

Alpine Village

I was surprised at first when I arrived to see that Bled seemed very similar to many Austrian villages I had seen - particularly the houses. I guess this is not surprising considering that Bled is just a short trip away. I stayed in a house similar to this rented by a Grandmother (See Tips). It's perhaps hard to see in this picture, though many of the towns are lined with flowers of all sorts of colors which adds to the scenery.

A walk around the lake is very pleasant. This picture was taken from the north side (the main picture above is from the east looking west). On the far west side there is a boating area and also a dock by which rowers launch. Depending on the time of year one may see rowers gracefully skimming across the lake.
