Enchantment with Buddha.

My second leg of "ASEAN tour" brought me to Bangkok, Thailand on August 2002. Like most people, going to places for the first time can pump your adrenalin out of proportion days or even weeks prior to actual getaway, much more when travelling to another country! For myself the pumping started 2 months ago when I booked myself for a roundtrip ticket to Thailand. It was an agonizing long wait for me though as weeks went by without a confirmation from my travel agency ‘til a week before my scheduled flight. I wondered why my early booking didn’t seem to count much as I was confirmed on a second Thai Airways flight at 12:25pm instead of an earlier flight at around 9:30am on 9th August. Perhaps Singapore’s National Day holiday celebration brought more people out of the country. Nevertheless, I smiled with excitement when that day finally dawned.

What brought me to this “City of Angels” was my fascination with their numerous and elaborately-designed temples and well-sculptured replicas of their marvellous Buddhas. Within the city and beyond, much has been preserved of their cultural heritage yet they managed to “go along” with the changing times as evidenced with modern developments and facilities, world-class hotels and dazzling shopping and entertainment centres sprawling everywhere. Equally famous is their neon-lit bar districts (and red districts) for nocturnal owls out there. But if there’s one thing I’ll always longed for it’s Thailand’s acclaimed spicy specialties no one does best but the locals! Overall, a Truly Amazing Thailand!
