Gaudi, Chanel and Horchata, meet Barcelona

Compare And Contrast

This is pure Barcelona - architectural genius next to corporate giants. Oh, and traffic lights everywhere!!
Barcelona is like a miniature version of Europe in its diversity. Hop on that metro at one stop and come out at another 10 minutes later and it's like an entirely different country. The Ports, Passeig de Gracia, Gothic Quarter... there's a completely different feeling in each place and it's all begging to be explored.
Cava - Barcelona's Bubbly

Don't be another dumb tourist

Drink: Horchata for those pavement cafe moments, Cava the rest of the time. If you must have wine with your meal, make it red! Always order water (agua) too - you need to stay hydrated.
Eat: Tortillas (like spanish omelettes - yum), tapas, salads, cured meats and chocolate. Say no to that paella (even if they have a picture of paella - in fact, don't even go in if they have a picture of paella outside)
Appreciate: Gaudi (you'll get sick of hearing about him), cathedrals, museums and cobblestone streets
Be aware: Of your wallet/bag! We didn't have any trouble but supposedly pickpocketing is rife in Barcelona, particularly on Las Ramblas.

Walk, walk, walk

Definitely use the metro, but you do have to do a lot of walking after you get off that stop. Unless you're just hitting the major sights. But to find all the fabulous shops, the interesting streets and the cute cafes, you're going to have to walk down those long streets then down some side streets then back down another long street to get back to the metro. You'll really appreciate your siesta after all the walking. :)
Pedestrian crossings galore

Pros:"great weather, friendly people, yummy food"
Cons:"lots of walking and waiting to cross the road"
In A Nutshell:"A mish-mash of old-new, tacky-classy and sea-land - a city you HAVE to see!"

I'll save my euro for another glass of cava (in Copenhagen i tried to play guitar - i was near the round tower - and i did a LOT of money in a couple of hours!) ;-))
