The first country we visited on our trip was Jordan. A mix of ancient civilisations and modern development. A country which was created and still exists thanks to its strategic position, economical help and diplomatic relations with its neighbors and the US. A land of huge differences between rich and poor, ancient and modern, fertile and desert (80% of Jordan is indeed desert.) Jordan, the country which befriends all others because it cannot survive on its own. |
Jordan has almost no natural ressources. It needs to import everything, from oil and gas, to fruits and vegetables. The US helps Jordan with billions every year, as they all hope to find petrol in its desert very soon. The entire economy is built on a card tower, which can fall apart any day. As we were there, the jordan dinar was stronger than the euro and the US dollar. Quite surprising for a country as naturally poor as Jordan. |

Most of the places we visited in Jordan were very new and lacked that history and ancient soul we were expecting. Cities like Amman or Aqaba, which are only worth passing by, or not even. But then you also have treasures such as Petra and Jarash, magical and so well preserved you find yourself traveling back in time. These two antique sites deserve at least a few days stay. The Wadi Rum desert is also worth a one-day excursion or a few days trek. |
