San Blas is a neighborhood of Cusco. Cusco is basically built in a whole, surrounded by hills and mountains and San Blas is on one of them. Thus the streets are steep and you get great views of the city. But the charm of San Blas imho is the architecture (charming little small white houses), and the narrow typical streets. It's also full of churches, galleries, and charming B&Bs. Also, don't miss the San Blas church. You can (and should) spend a whole day wandering San Blas, if you have it.

This was the main temple of the Quechuas in the Valley of Cusco, dedicated to the Agriculture Gods. When the Spaniards came, they proceeded to destroy Inca temples and build churches in their place. However, when the earthquake of 1650 came, it destroyed all the churches and none of the remaining Inca temples. They thus learned that the Incas had a special way of putting the stones together, sort of like a puzzle, that "survived" earthquakes. After that, they kept the foundations of the Inca temples and built churches on top, just like they did with Qoricancha.

The Cathedral was built over one of the most important Inca temples built in honor of the God Wiracocha; unlike Qoricancha, here the conquistadores did not keep the Inca foundations. This construction lasted more than a century. Here you find a great artistic treasure, with paintings of great painters such as Marcos Zapata, Rafael de Urbina and Melchor Huamán,as well as a great variety of styles:Baroque, Rococo, Churrigeresco, etc.
