Well, let’s explain myself. I had this discussion with my Dominican and Spanish friends, there in Santo Domingo. I have nothing against “all inclusive” resorts and the people who use these. It’s a legitimate option as many others, maybe one day I will go there. The kind of people I cannot bear are the ones that go to an “all inclusive” resort, maybe do one or two guided daytrips… and claim later they “know”, or they “have seen all” the country (let’s say Dominican Republic, but it happens everywhere). If they claim they had a terrific week in the beach, that’s perfect… but if you want to know a country, its people, its reality…. you should mix with the locals, and just one week is just scratching the surface. I've not seen it "all", and I would like to return!! |

| | . . I had a great holiday, I feel so fortunate! The week we spend in Dominican Republic was a short but very intense experience. Our Dominican friend was so kind, he took us to many places. This way, we saw some places really "out of the beaten track", it was sometimes fun, sometimes weird, sometimes a bit sad. We visited 3 areas of the country: - Santo Domingo (where my friend lives) - Las Terrenas (long weekend trip, 3 nights) - Bayahibe and Boca Chica(short trip, one night stay) |
. How to summarize so many impressions, so many feelings, so many tastes, so many memories? Santo Domingo, Las Terrenas, Bayahibe… Sunny beaches and heavy rains. Mountains and rice fields. Big city and small villages. The richest and the poorest. The Colonial buildings and the Contemporary Arts museum. Happy kids playing baseball with a piece of cardboard instead of the glove. “Santeria”, superstition, Christian messages written on the walls. Heavy traffic, “motoconchos”, chaos. Delicious Creole food. Having a sandwich of “pan de agua” in a popular “barra” or a delicious ice cream in a really posh place beside the sea. Deafening music everywhere, merengue, bachatas, perreo…
So much to see, to smell, to feel… | | | How many did you think could travel in one car? |
