"Lanzarote: feeling the power of Gaia" Isla de Lanzarote by Belsaita

So much to see and feel!

I do really HATE package tourism. But I've been to Lanzarote a few times, both in summer and Christmas time, having always a wonderful time. It's so easy to keep away from the crowds: Just avoiding the beaches in the touristy zones (South and East).

Each visit, we hired a car and wandered around the island. Impressive volcanic landscapes, the artworks of jorge Manrique everywhere, charming white towns in contrast with the black and red soil... Very good food, if you went to the fishermen villages and choose the ones the locals go (ask at the local tourist info office in Arrecife, they will give you a list). See the wine factory of 'El Grifo' (interesting small museum... and you have the possibility to enjoy there a selection of their wines with local cheese varieties!).

Nightlife is virtually inexistent away from the touristy resorts.
