| Hotel de Ville, in the Grande Place |
I first got to know Brussels in September 1999, when I stayed for two weeks. Unfortunately, one of those weeks was spent in hospital undergoing surgery! But even so, I was able to feel the buzz of the place. As the home of the Council of Europe, there's plenty going on, and although the visual impact of the place isn't much to get excited about, the ambience is of a city which is friendly and accommodating, and with plenty to eat, drink, hear, see and do.
The Grande Place is the exception to the visual disappointments. It is a very remarkable open space surounded by buildings of stunning beauty that have to be seen at all times of day and night to appreciate their infinite variety. |

GillianMcLaughlin Thu May 27, 2004 20:36 UTC Hi. Time for a revisit methinks to discover some of the hidden corners of this city... I'm sure we could leave you with a positive impression of the architecture. Loved your page though, and your photos are stunning! | mrclay2000 Thu Sep 11, 2003 15:56 UTC I figure to use Brussels as my home base when I next visit Europe. Looks interesting enough, but as you say probably NOT a city of beautiful buildings. | acemj Sat Aug 2, 2003 15:41 UTC You must have shown all the beautiful buildings on this page! Rabbit cooked in cherry beer, huh? Sounds good. Happy birthday, Rosalind!! | Bigjones Fri Jul 11, 2003 13:21 UTC Nice page on Brussels. But there are a lot of beautiful buildings outside Grand-Place: the Art Nouveau buildings (Cauchie, Horta's house, Botanique, Old England, Saint-Cyr house ...), "Place du Sablon", "Palais d'Egmont". Some ideas for your next trip ;-) |
